Application Process

Now accepting applications for 2024! 

We will be accepting submissions postmarked by Sunday, March 31, 2024.

The John C. Sable Memorial Heart Fund, Inc., of the New York State Independent Order of Odd Fellows, is continuing our Grant-In-Aid to help further the education of a Physician in the field of Heart Research.

 

The general rules of eligibility for the grant are as follows:
 

2024 Grant #1: The applying physician has completed at least two years of residency or is engaged in a fellowship training program with a career goal of serving as a cardiovascular specialist (cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular medicine, and vascular surgery). 

2024 Grant #2: An early stage faculty member (a physician who is within 3 years of completing their formal postgraduate training) who is actively engaged in cardiovascular research at an academic medical center.

  • The candidate must currently work within New York State. 

  • Each candidate is required to submit a short letter informing us of their research project. This letter of application is to include curriculum vitae. The candidate must have the approval (by letter of recommendation) from the Director of their Cardiology training/research program.

  • The applicants must be available to attend the presentation of the award at the John C. Sable dinner event. Date to be determined each year. 

    • A complimentary meal will be provided to the award winner and a guest. Additional guests are welcome to attend at a nominal cost. Hotel Accommodations will be provided to recipient for one night, if required.

  • Applications are to be mailed to:

  • A consulting Cardiologist will review all applications.

  • The recipients of the Grant-In-Aid will be notified after May 1, 2024.

  • The recipients must provide quarterly progress reports on their project to the John C Sable Heart Fund.

  • In 2024, we will be awarding two grants in the amount of $20,000.00 each and paid quarterly over the course of one year.

  • In accordance with the John C. Sable Bylaws, 100% of this grant must be used for research purposes. 0% of this grant is allowed for administrative fees.
